Somtochukwu Oguchienti
Somtochukwu Oguchienti has a unique middle name, Marcellinus, which he shares with an early Christian pope, a Roman general and a chairman of the Roman senate. With such a historically important name, an ambitious and goal-driven personality, and a hunger for learning, Somtochukwu is destined for greatness.
He represented Dority International Early Learning School in many competitions, winning the NIPOST Essay Competition in 2013. After graduating from Dority in 2014, he studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
In FUTO, he designed and developed a website for the After School What Next seminar organized yearly for students. He also created an online forum where he mentored younger students and helped them build a strong academic foundation.
Somtochukwu is passionate about using technology to improve lives and solve problems. He started and completed his FUTO final year project, an improved design for a solar energy lamp, in less than two weeks and spends his leisure time reading about trends in technology.

His interests are not limited to technology. He’s also passionate about human development and child protection. He recently signed a change.org petition to increase the age of consent for marriage in Nigeria from eleven years to eighteen years.
At the 32nd convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Somtochukwu Oguchienti emerged the best overall graduating student for the 2018/2019 academic year, with a CGPA of 4.90.
He believes that the extra lessons at Dority–the evening lessons, Saturday lessons and holiday lessons–contributed to his success in FUTO.
